When Chosing seats
[wingnut] [02:18 pm - 06 Dec 2012]
.
I thought I would just mention, as you are choosing seats I will warn that the seats in the back are usually the warmest part of the room (left-top corner of the seat map). So if that is not ideal for you I would recommend ones more toward the front (right side). We have a few large fans we put in to help but these areas tend to get a little warmer.

Who is Steve "Assassin" DeKarske?

Most of you know Steve I am sure, but for those newer folk Steve "Assassin" DeKarske is the Co-Founder of SpartyLANParty. He and I ran this organization with the help of students of MSU up until about 2 years ago when he had to move to Texas for a new job. Steve's fingerprints are all over this organization and he helped build this great community. I certainly do not have to explain this to those that know him, as you know he is the most giving kind and caring individual you will ever meet...that is unless you are an opponent in Call of Duty.

Why does he need our help?

This week Steve's apartment complex in Texas burned to the ground, along with every possession of theirs including identification, phones, car keys .... Everything, leaving them with only the clothes on their backs. Everyone got out safe and for that we are thankful, but he could use our help to get their life back in order after this utter disaster.

What is left of Steve's apartment complex, and all their belongings.

'SLP Was Here'

As is depicted in the very VERY early picture of Steve above at only our second SLP gathering, SLP leaves its mark wherever it goes. This time SLP is going leave its mark on one of its own by helping Steve, and we are going to help him as big as we can.

100% of the proceeds of this LAN will be sent directly to Steve. In order to generate as much as possible for him we are limiting our expenses on this LAN to only one meal of Pizza on Saturday evening. We estimate that $17 of each $20 payment will be able to be sent to help out Steve and his wife Amber. Our goal is to generate between $800 and $1000 for them and we can do that if we can get 50-60 people in attendance.

Some people have already sent in donations in response to an email we sent out before we decided to plan this LAN. If you are one of those people simply register for the event and let us know and we will mark you as paid. Also if you would like to send in any monetary donations to Steve and Amber in addition to the registration fee we are accepting those on his behalf. Simply contact either Jeremy (Bosestyle) or I for info.

So whats going on at the LAN?

Glad you asked! Due to the snort notice nature of this, it will be a 'basement' style LAN with mostly open play. We are working with the folks from Big Shot Gaming in Mt. Pleasant (CMU) to have a good number of game servers on site in various games. We will plan a "Game of the 2 hours" type of schedule so that people will be encouraged to play together in a variety of games. We will also be planning a Starcraft 2 'for fun' tournament of some type.

We are attempting to seek out a couple of sponsors but that's about it, largely we are attempting to get a beverage sponsor such as NOS. We will let you know if we are able to get that together or not. We will have one provided pizza dinner Saturday evening. We will also have some type of beverages available for the event such as fruit punch, lemonade and water at the very least.

PROMOTION HELP

Due to the short planning timeframe, we need your help to promote this, post it to facebook, twitter, your dorm peg boards, tell your neighbors, friends, relatives or anyone you know. We are going to do our best to fill it up and do the most good for Steve and Amber.

On behalf of Steve and the SLP Admins, we thank you for your support! Hope to see you there. Look for more info in the coming days.
